Trees for Troops Weekend

Visit Sugargrove Tree Farm on Saturday, December 1, or Sunday, December 2, 2007 and purchase a Christmas tree for a family serving our country.  The tree you select and purchase will be loaded on a FedEx truck for delivery the week of December 3 along with 15,000 other Christmas trees to service men and women at more than 35 bases throughout the U.S.  This event is a partnership between the Christmas Spirit Foundation and FedEx.

Support our troops with a Christmas tree. Need to be reminded why?  Go here if you have forgotten:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ervaMPt4Ha0 .

The only Trees for Troops Weekend location in Ohio is Sugargrove Tree Farm. Sugargrove has a special price of $25.00 on a designated block of trees for this event.  For every tree purchased, $5.00 will be sent to the Christmas Spirit Foundation.

Local veterans and the Army National Guard-1486th Transportation Unit will be available to assist you with your selection.  Military vehicles will be on display.

If you want to purchase a tree and are unable to visit on December 1 or 2, we will accept your $25.00 check for payment.

Make the check to: Sugargrove Tree Farm

Mail to:                  1619 Township Road 1455

                              Ashland,  OH  44805

If the check is received prior to November 30, we will select a tree in your name and put it on the trailer.  Checks received November 30 and later will be sent as donation to the Christmas Spirit Foundation.

We do not have the ability to take an internet order or phone orders as we are not capable of taking credit cards. You can make a contribution to the Christmas Spirit Foundation at the Trees for Troops website, www.treesfortroops.org.

Fun Activities
Since 1984, countless families have included a visit to Sugargrove Tree Farm in their Christmas season traditions. Many of their most delightful Christmas memories include the discovery of the perfect Christmas tree at our tree farm. We invite you to visit us and start your own family tradition and happy memories.

The fun begins with the wagon ride into the field where families look for the perfect tree to cut. When your family has made a decision and you have cut the tree with saws we provide, one of our friendly drivers will come to the field to pick you up along with your tree, and return you to our heated barn for a cup of hot chocolate and a cookie. We'll unload your tree from the wagon, shake the dead needles out and bale it up to make it easier for you to get your tree home and set up. Beautiful wreaths and door swags are conveniently on display for your easy selection.

Horse Drawn Wagons
Your wagon ride to the field can be on a wagon pulled by a team of draft horses. We will have horse drawn wagon rides on the following days of the 2007 Christmas season:

  Friday November 23
  Saturday November 24
  Sunday November 25
  Saturday December 1
  Sunday December 2
  Saturday December 8
  Sunday December 9

Wagon rides, saws, tree shaking, baling, drilling, hot chocolate, cookies and loading assistance are customer services we provide at no additional cost.

Tree Types
We grow four species of trees for use as Christmas trees: Scotch Pine, White Pine, Fraser Fir and Canaan Fir. You don't need to know what you want when you arrive. We have samples of each species available, and we will be happy to help you decide which tree would be perfect for you and your family.

Convenience of Pre-Cut Trees
For those who do not wish to make a trip on the wagon to the field, pre-cut trees are available close to the barn for your convenience. We cut these trees weekly so that you can be sure that your pre-cut tree is as fresh as if you cut it yourself.  We will have pre-cut Fir trees up to 12’ tall.

Live Trees
We also have five species of trees available that can be dug and planted in your yard after the holidays are over. Those species include White Pine, Norway Spruce, Colorado Blue Spruce, Fraser Fir and Canaan Fir. We will provide you with instructions for having the tree in your house as well as planting guidelines.

Christmas Tree Sales Season and Hours
We open for our 2007 Christmas tree sales season on Friday, November 23, and will close for business on Saturday, December 22.. We are open Wednesday through Saturday from 9 AM to 5 PM and Sunday from 11 AM to 4 PM.
